SmartSD reinforces your digital security with 2FA

At SmartSD, protecting your data is a top priority. That is why we are implementing additional security measures on our platform.

To continue guaranteeing a safe and reliable digital environment, two-factor authentication (2FA) will soon become mandatory on the SmartSD website. You will receive a one-time verification code by email, allowing you to confirm your access in a simple and secure way.

In addition, we are optimizing session management. Your session will automatically expire after a period of inactivity or at the latest 30 days after the last successful 2FA verification. This ensures that your account and company information remain optimally protected, even during prolonged use.

For new users within your organization, 2FA will also be activated by default upon first login. This ensures a consistent and secure access policy across your company.

Why these additional security measures?
This is a deliberate choice to structurally improve the protection of your digital environment. In today’s digital landscape, there are various risks that make enhanced security necessary, including:

  • Compromised login credentials (data breach)
    Usernames and passwords can unintentionally be exposed through external data breaches. When the same credentials are reused across multiple platforms, there is a risk that unauthorized parties gain access to a SmartSD account. With 2FA, a leaked password alone is no longer sufficient to log in.

  • Unattended devices with active sessions
    In certain situations, a user may remain logged in on a computer or mobile device that is temporarily left unattended. This can allow a third party to perform unwanted actions on behalf of the user, such as creating additional accounts or placing orders. By automatically expiring sessions, we significantly reduce this risk.
  • Former employees with active access rights
    When employees leave the organization, access rights are not always immediately adjusted or deactivated. Active accounts of former employees represent a real security risk. With stricter access and verification policies, we reduce the risk of misuse or unintended actions.

Once malicious actors gain access to a user or company account, this can lead to unwanted orders, changes to delivery addresses, the creation of additional users, or other operational disruptions, with potential financial and organizational consequences. By introducing 2FA and improved session management, these risks are structurally reduced. A strong and unique password policy on your side also remains essential to optimally secure your digital environment.
