Paxton Net2 version 7
This release introduces Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and provides support for Windows Server 2025. In addition, Paxton is ending support for the Net2 Classic controllers.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
With the latest update, Net2 takes an important step forward. From version 7 onwards, Net2 is equipped with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). This additional layer of security ensures that only authorised users can access the Net2 software, even if a password falls into the wrong hands.
In addition to a password, MFA uses a second verification method, such as a code sent via email or a mobile authenticator app. This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorised access and ensures Net2 complies with modern cybersecurity standards.
Net2 supports the following MFA methods:
- Authentication via email
- Authentication via a mobile authenticator app, such as Microsoft Authenticator and Google Authenticator
- Both MFA options, allowing administrators to choose which method they want to use at login
MFA is enabled by default for new Net2 installations. During installation, you can choose to disable MFA (opt-out). When MFA is used, the preferred method can be configured per system. Within Net2, it is also possible to define how often authentication must be renewed, adjustable from 0 to 90 days.
For existing installations that are updated, MFA remains disabled by default. After completing the update, MFA can be activated at any time via the Net2 Access Control Software.
MFA is fully supported in Net2Online as well as in the Paxton Connect app. However, MFA settings must always first be configured in the Net2 Access Control Software. Please also ensure that users are running version 4.0 or higher of the Paxton Connect app.
The Net2 Configuration Utility does not include MFA, as it does not provide access to system information such as users, events and permissions.
End of support for Net2 Classic Controllers
Since the release of Net2 v6.9 in early 2025, it was announced that support for Net2 Classic controllers would end from version 7 onwards. Now that Net2 version 7 is available, this support has officially been discontinued.
For installations upgrading to version 7, it is therefore necessary to replace any Net2 Classic controllers in the system before the update can be completed. During the installation of v7, you will receive a notification if Net2 Classic controllers are detected and need to be replaced before proceeding.

Compatibility with Windows Server 2025
Finally, there is good news regarding compatibility. Net2 is now compatible with Windows Server 2025 and can therefore be installed in this environment from v7 onwards. This change ensures that Net2 remains compatible with the majority of the latest Windows operating systems.
This new version will be available for download from 3 February via the Paxton portal. During the update to Net2 v7, the PC may need to restart.
